SARANG KITCHEN x SPOTIFY:

USING SCIENCE TO HELP NEURODIVERGENT FAMILIES DINE OUT AGAIN

Toronto’s first-ever sensory-friendly dining experience, Sarang Kitchen, launches an all-original album of music scientifically proven to calm the brain and create a more positive dining experience for the neurodivergent community. Launched on World Autism Awareness Day, the album sparked critical conversation about inclusive dining experiences.

Dining out is something we all take for granted. But 90% of those on the autism spectrum have a heightened response to excessive sound making the noise and music in traditional restaurants unbearable. But what if the sound in the restaurant was the solution rather than the problem?

We worked with Sarang Kitchen to create the world's first playlist of music that calms the brain to allow the neurodivergent to dine in peace. We used the latest science behind how music and sound can alter mood and calm anxiety through research into sound frequencies, BPM, tone, rhythm and use of brown noise. The result was an album of songs that could be provided to all restaurants to help accommodate the neurodivergent.

But we didn't stop there. We wanted the neurodivergent community to create the album themselves. We found musicians and singers on the spectrum to perform the music. And the playlist was launched on World Autism Awareness Day throughSpotify and Apple Music. The response was instant as plays and downloads increased daily as restaurants picked up the album to use in their own dining spaces. Media outlets picked up the story and raised awareness of accommodating the neurodivergent while the biggest impact was the families that enjoyed dining out again. Every day the neurodivergent adapt to the world. Today, we adapted to them.
